The Jackette is a site about mediums: all the different ways people are trying to say something to each other.

Andrew Newman

Andrew Newman is an artist who sometimes writes. He has exhibited his work in Sydney, Berlin and Tokyo.

In 2008 he completed a MFA under Ryszard Dabek and John Conomos at the Sydney College of the Arts, researching  the impact of new communication technologies on love letters. He has studied experimental media under German filmmaker Karl Kels at the Universität der Künste, Berlin and journalism and communication under investigative journalist Wendy Bacon and media theorist Philip Bell at the University of Technology, Sydney.

He is currently a PhD candidate at the Centre for Contemporary Art and Politics at the University of New South Wales.

The blog is titled The Jackette because Andrew Newman used to belong to a synth pop band called J.A.C.K. (myspace). J.A.C.K formed at art school and performed across Sydney. They disbanded when all the members moved across different parts of the world. To keep in touch with each other they started a travel blog that was called The Jackette at blogspot. Andrew Newman was the only one who really caught on to blogging and as such decided to start The Jackette v.2 here.
